Check your camera settings to see how large you can shoot pictures. You're looking for something in the area fof 1500 pixels and 300 dpi. A magazine or a newspaper prefers large format photos because they can make them larger in the publication. Websites need lo-res. Print needs hi-res. It's that simple.
