Check out this recent editorial in the Chicago Tribune about privatizing festivals there. The feeling is that by charging admission, the festival is guaranteed income.
Could this be a trend?
With so many festivals barely getting by financially, perhaps some will opt to limit access to the festival space and charge admission. Some festivals already do charge for some elements, such as block parties, where access is limited because of the presence of alcohol.
But this is something to consider. Perhaps your event has an area where you could charge a nominal fee for entrance - such as a children's activities area or a beer/wine garden.
MARKETING TIP: Stay abreast of what is going on with festivals. Create a Google Alert so that when news happens, it pops up on your IN box. Be open to new ideas.
