A car dealership just invited me to join its site on LinkedIn. I responded that I felt it is inappropriate for a car dealership to be on LinkedIn, that it would be more fitting on Facebook. The sales reps, however, could participate in LinkedIn.
Why did I say that?
LinkedIn is a professional social networking site where business people meet online. Consider it a networking event where you exchange business cards, shake each others hands and then possibly do business with that person later on.
Facebook is more social in nature and is a great place to advertise events, attractions, destinations - and even cars. You can also take out an ad on Facebook. Restaurants, grocery stores, dress shops and even small towns can have sites on Facebook - but not on LinkedIn.
MARKETING TIP: Make sure your social networking site is an appropriate venue for your message and product.
