Part of Public Relations is Rumor Control

Regardless of the industry you're serving, part of public relations is helping determine what is fact or fiction.

Here's an example - I'm working on a brand new street festival that has local residents buzzing around with questions. Some have been directed appropriately to the event organizer. But others haven't. It's funny how we people are - we'll ask a friend or neighbor instead of going to the decision-maker.

So as rumors have hit the streets, it's been important for the event organizer to field the questions, give the answers to the PR director for dissemination. Local media helps to do that.

MARKETING TIP: If you're starting a new festival or event, make sure you've got a good strong relationship with your local media. They can help you quash rumors and spread the truth.
